Kelly Green’s fashionable renaissance

Today it was announced that the Philadelphia Eagles will reintroduce their classic kelly green colour scheme for their alternate uniforms in 2023. But this nostalgia for this bright shade of green is far from isolated to the Eagles, Kelly green is having a renaissance across the fashion world. It is currently the must buy colour on the highstreet, and items are selling like hotcakes. 

Why is Kelly Green back in fashion?

Fashion experts are always on the lookout for the season’s “hero colour” and this year, it’s Kelly Green. But why? It’s had a fashionable overhaul, probably originally emerging through a sense of nostalgia, and then has been seen as a hit of colour that can really brighten an outfit. Whilst it can be divisive, it’s a shade of green that has proved popular with both catwalk models and influencers on the street.

Whilst it may seem too bold or out there as a colour to wear on a daily basis, there are actually many ways to incorporate it into your regular rotation of colours within your Spring/Summer arsenal. You can use it as a highlight, by adding to your more neutral wardrobe staples and brightening them up for Spring; or you can seek out fresh kelly green items that will stand alone. 

You can really control how much green you’re willing to wear; easily removing a flashy item like a green trench coat and reverting to a monochrome outfit you are wearing underneath, or build up whatever you are already wearing with Kelly green accessories to add pops of colour.

Whilst the weather may be improving, in Britain wall to wall sunshine from April to September is unheard of, so you need to have some items that are versatile and can be worn on a cloudy spring day. Having some good pieces of thin knitwear is incredibly useful, so why not spice things up and move away from the light brown, beige or offwhite pieces that you would normally wear and spice things up with a Kelly green utilitarian cardi.

Skirt Suit

The skirt suit was once a cult fashion item, with many inspired by Elle Woods hot pink outfit; and it has returned to being trendy once again. However rather than coordinated pink options flying off the shelves, it is Kelly green outfits that are in demand. A trench coat or a statement coat of any sort is a key item in any wardrobe. They can be worn all year round due to their ability to work as a layer. We think kelly green is a brilliant option if you want something more interesting than the classic beige Burberry look, and then pair your bright coat with a monochrome outfit of a simple white shirt and black trousers.

The world is full of contradictions. Whilst Maxi dresses are at the height of fashion at the moment, an alluring mini dress will always make a brilliant outfit. A kelly green minidress would definitely look brilliant on the dancefloor, so if you are looking for a party outfit this is one we recommend.

You can get a burst of Kelly green with a well fitting shirt, and bring out its boldness by contrasting it against a black pair of trousers or skirt. It’s simple and effective, and you can’t really commit any fashion crimes by wearing it like this.
