A luxurious end to Dry January
If you have committed to having a Dry January, either as a New Years Resolution or just as part of a health kick, you might be struggling in the final week of the month. After a while, refusing drinks and slurping on tea, or feeling like a child drinking lemonade at a party, gets frustrating. But Dry January or just living in sobriety need not mean a life divorced from luxury. Here is our guide to some brilliant, stress-free non-alcoholic drinks that you can enjoy; whether your favourite tipple is wine, beer, or a fun cocktail.
Wine
Trying to replace your favourite wine is no easy feat, and whilst Sleur can be lovely to drink; it never feels quite the same as a great glass of a full bodied wine or replicate the feeling of “that first glass of very cold white wine before dinner”, that Tom describes in Succession.
However, Acid League might have just done this. Rather than de-alcoholised wines, that can just taste like stripped down, diluted drinks; Acid League’s Wine Proxies are a beautiful blend of juices, teas, vinegars, spices, herbs that they use to create unique tasting drinks, built to be paired with a meal.
If you are interested in trying some of this alcohol free wine, we would recommend the Acid League Tasting Set. It provides you with 4 bottles of wine; two different whites, a rose and a deep red.
Beers
If beer is more your thing, then you may feel like you have drawn a short straw over January. Mass Market Non-alcoholic beer rightfully has a bad reputation as a terrible tasting drink that doesn’t come close to reaching the real thing.
Luckily there are now some companies trying to change this. Beerwulf, a Beer enthusiast company, has done the discovery for you and put together a brilliant collection of Alcohol Free beers that you can buy as a case.
Ready to drink alcohol free cocktails
You may love a complicated cocktail with 2 or 3 different spirits, more than one mixing technique, and at least one or two syrups you have made yourself; and as you become initiated into this world you will find out you can do this with alcohol free spirits. But to start out with, if you want to enjoy a good alcohol free cocktail, there are some great ready to drink ones that you can buy.
Chief among them are the luxurious Curious Elixirs. These bottled cocktails are brilliant cocktails that feel vibrant and just as fresh as a cocktail you might have made at a bar with fruits, herbs and syrups in front of you.
The most recently launched cocktail is their elderflower and lavender champagne, and sounds like a brilliant drink to enjoy as we look forward to the Spring.
Or if you prefer a more fruity Caribbean style cocktail, then Elixir No. 2 might be more for you. It’s an interesting damiana infused drink that feels like a blend of a pineapple margarita and a classic Dark and Stormy.
